It's hay fever and allergy season here in Ontario, which affects 10-20% of Canadians in April, May, and June.

It is September 2024, and it seems Summer has been prolonged here. The last week of September saw temperatures range in the low twenties. It has been humid for the last four months, and allergens in the air have also been prolonged.

Sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and postnasal drip show Hay Fever. Reactions to pollens such as ragweed, trees, dust, moulds, grasses, animals and foods cause it!

If not addressed, these deemed harmless allergic reactions can, in time, create a toxic overload in the immune system! Be wary if you are one of many of the population using drugs, alcohol and tobacco, as this will worsen the allergic symptoms.

What to do? Your choices: Relief or Wellness?

Antihistamines are the most common drugs used to treat allergic symptoms; however, they are not without their side effects. One of the significant side effects is drowsiness, so if you do choose to use one, be careful driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery. Other side effects are dry mouth, throat, nose, blurred vision, loss of appetite, nausea, upset stomach, and dizziness. It can, in some cases, cause nervousness, insomnia, and restlessness.

What is the Alternative Solution?

In a healthy body, all the organs and tissues function optimally to maintain homeostasis (balance). As long as nothing triggers it, the body will run smoothly. However, if Trauma and irritation occur, the body will try to make corrections to return to balance.

The Primary sources of prolonged Trauma and irritation to the body are habits, lifestyle and beliefs.

As a result, pay attention to what you tell yourself as justification for your choices and your consumption of Processed foods, alcohol, and drugs, mainly when allergic reactions occur. The body will try to compensate for the loss of minerals, lack of oxygen, and toxicity to the liver, weakening your immune system further.

Focus on eating plant-based foods, such as leafy greens (Kale, collards, and arugula), fruits, and legumes, which have a high enzymatic function. Reduce your processed food, alcohol, and tobacco consumption. Drink clean water. Be mindful of your air pollution inside and out!
